Design and Optimization of Five Phase Nonoverlapping Stator Wound Field Flux switching Machine for Torque Performance Enhancement

This paper describes the design, analysis and optimization of five phase wound field flux switching (WFFS) machine having the non-overlap winding configuration and design analysis is briefly discussed in terms of flux linkage, back EMF, flux strengthening, cogging torque, average torque. The optimization of the initial machine is performed to enhance the average output torque and minimize the torque ripples while motor size is kept constant. In optimization process, krigging method specified with Latin Hyper-cube Sampling and a genetic algorithm (GA) is executed due to appropriateness with non-linear data. Then, results are verified through finite element analysis by JMAG-Designer. It is observed that optimized model has obtained 12.8% increase in average output torque and 22.71% torque ripples reduction as compared to the initial model. Finally, electromagnetic performances verify the reliability of the optimized model.
