Human Identification Using Thermal Sensing Inside Mines

This paper presents a human detection method in dark or barely lit mines to prevent accidents. This method is based on a combination of infrared sensing and distance calculation using either sound or light. By sensing a human's presence using infrared scanning and getting the general direction of where they are, the distance calculation device can then tell us how far we need to travel to get to them. The proposed method can also help stop machinery from getting too close to humans or any living being present in the surrounding. The method is adopted to guarantee both human identification and accurate distance calculation where there is no presence of light. Experimental results are presented and show the effectiveness and efficiency of the strategy.
