Virtual Reality Based Application for Autistic Adolescents in Malaysia

Virtual reality applications for autistic adolescence is an attempt for assisting intellectually different adolescents and to cope with one aspect of routine everyday tasks which normal people often take for granted. To autistic adolescents, one of the numerous daily living skills, namely grocery shopping may range from mission impossible to a breeze to acquire, depending on their levels in the spectrum of autism. This VR grocery shopping app is a computer-generated environment that enables mildly autistic users to interact and experience shopping at a supermarket by being fully immersed in navigating through virtual spaces such as aisles, shelves and counters, etc. The objectives of this research are to increase accessibility and to reduce cost of interventions. In addition, it is also aims to develop VR-based skill training for mildly autistic adolescents in Malaysia in order for them to be able to live more independently.
