The Adoption of Information Communication Technology (ICT) by Japanese SMEs

In Japan, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are facing a labor shortage due to population decline. One solution is to adopt information and communication technology (ICT) to increase productivity. However, in practice, ICT adoption has not advanced sufficiently. This study focuses on the types of knowledge lacking in ICT adoption. Then, information presented by SMEs for ICT adoption was sorted and classified using ISO / IEC / IEEE 29148: 2018. Our survey found that ICT adoption did not adequately plan business and stakeholder requirements. In addition, it suggested that the purposes and goals were not properly arranging. The goal of this study is to promote the adoption of ICT by Japanese SMEs and to help alleviate the labor shortage. In the future, we would like to develop a support system for arranging and documenting purposes and goals for ICT adoption.
