Optimization of performance and engine emissions of a dual-fuel engine using Grey-Taguchi technique

Performance of a compression ignition engine running in dual fuel mode with biogas was optimized by Grey-Taguchi technique. The variations in engine load, biogas flow rate (BGFR) and compression ratio (CR) were investigated to observe their influence on brake thermal efficiency, un-burnt hydrocarbons and nitric oxide. The obtained result shows that, optimal factor setting with engine load at 80%, CR at 18 and BGFR at 0.6 kg h
^-1
gave the best result for the selected responses. Analysis of variance determines the relative contribution of CR, engine load and BGFR were found to be 43.18, 20.93 and 33.71% respectively. This indicates that, variation in engine load has the lowest contribution on the desired output responses as compared to CR and BGFR.
