Wind Power assistant to weak grid with special load: A case study of High power induction furnace

Coupling of special high power loads (like high power induction furnace HPIF) to weak grids will affect its energy balance and quality. Furthermore, the energy flow is limited in such networks thus some loads will be rationed. This paper focuses on assisting the power provisioning in the weak grid by the help of a wind energy system (WES). This one will be integrated into the network close to induction furnace, decreasing the power dedicated from the utility to the furnace, and improve the stability be adding more reactive power in the coupling point of the WES. Finally, to avoid the intermittence of the wind speed, this paper presents a fuzzy logic Maximum power point tracking at the DC coupling between wind generator and the grid inverter. The paper presents a case study of 10 MW induction furnace which will be tied to grid next to city of Damascus, and due to actual grid situation, this paper investigate this solution to overcome the rationing of energy which the Distribution Network Organizer may apply in the future on neighboring loads.
