Electromagnetic scattering by a thin conducting conical shell

A metal conical shell of finite size is a structure which appears frequently in electromagnetic scattering. It arises in radome applications, where the nose portion of the aircraft or missiles is usually capped with such a thin metal shell. The authors investigate its scattering effect under plane wave incidence and the effect on the radiation pattern of a radome antenna, in which case the scatterer is in the near field. The problem is formulated as the electrical field integral equation (EFIE) for the induced current on the conical surface, which is then solved numerically by the method of moments using triangular patch modelling.<
