A Plaintext-related Image Encryption Algorithm Usable in Biometric Systems

This paper proposes an image encryption algorithm that uses a plaintext-related solution. Since it utilizes a diffusion stage that spreads the differences also during decryption, it has several interesting properties for securing biometric image data. If the encrypted images are modified, their decryption provides noisy images without any important information. These assumptions are evaluated by several experiments with fingerprint and eye iris images and the obtained numerical data are compared with those reported in related papers. It is shown that the proposed solution achieves comparable results but it is much more effective.
