A container placement approach in a containership based on the electre 2 method

Maritime transport consists of moving goods or people mainly by sea. The sea route is one of the major channels through which goods are moved across the world. This mode of transport considers the loading and unloading of containers at ports. The best location of a container in a containership is very important for companies because this operation reduces transport costs. In this article, the authors propose an approach to the problem of container placement in a containership by using a multicriteria decision method named Electre II (Elimination and Choice Expressing Reality) to identify the best location of any container. Here, they consider four criteria: the container destination, the container weight, the departure date of the container and the container type. This method has as input a matrix of performance and gives a ranking of alternatives as an output.
