Cryptanalytic attacks on a chaos-based image encrypting cryptosystem

Multimedia security is of utmost important in this era of science and technology. The social networks in the internet witness huge number of digital images which need to be secured. Though lot of image encryption algorithms have been proposed by the scientific community, not all are worthy. In this aspect, a recently published image encryption algorithm is cryptanalyzed, and its weaknesses are revealed. The algorithm employs chaotic map to permute the pixels of the image row-wise and column-wise. After this, sequences from a neural network are generated for substitution in the image. This algorithm can be broken by a chosen plaintext attack, revealing the key. Apart from this, few changes in the algorithm are proposed to strengthen it, however none can really strengthen it without major modifications.
