A Review of the Main Technologies andApplication Potentials of P2G System for Renewable Integration

Power-to-Gas (P2G) has a vital role to enhance the integration of renewable energy in power systems on a large scale. P2G technology is an emerging technology these days. It demands an understanding of the fields of electrochemistry, electrical engineering, thermodynamic engineering, chemical engineering, and system engineering. To aim at P2G modeling and functional problems that are concerned with the research field of power systems and the energy internet, an clear summary of the principal technologies and implementation prospects of the P2G system have been done in this paper. A systematized review of vital advances associated with P2G’s integration into the power grid in an unmitigated manner has been made. This consists of the modeling of high/room-temperature electrolysis cells, steady-state/dynamic optimization control of the P2G system, P2G’s integrated model, and operational strategies at the grid level. Recommendations are presented for future research work of P2G systems from the aspects of modeling and operational point of view in the final part of this paper.
