Partial Shading Performance Evaluation of Bifacial PV Array Configurations

Effective power utilization of potential solar power is limited by intermittent environmental conditions. Such conditions (i.e., dust) lead to partial shading effects which reduce the amount of solar irradiance incident on the PV modules thereby, reducing the power generation. This paper presents simulation analysis of PV array reconfiguration as a mitigation technique for partial shading. It is found that the hybrid Honey-Comb-Total-Cross-Tied PV array configuration significantly mitigates partial shading losses under all shading conditions. The latter makes great application for bifacial solar PV topologies.
