Performance Analysis of Light Absorption in TMDC Monolayers Using Cover, Spacer, Gold and VO2 Layers

2D materials such as TMDCs (transition metal dichalcogenides) are of immense importance in the field of photonics due to their high optical absorption characteristics. For many photonic devices, large and broadband absorption is necessary. This paper deals with the analysis of optical absorption of four different TMDC monolayers (MoSe2, MoS2, WS2, WSe2) in multilayer structures which also include cover, spacer, gold and VO2 layers. Transfer matrix method was applied to find out the absorption spectra of different multilayer structures. It was found out that VO2 in its insulating phase with a thickness of 70 nm works as a better component than gold with a thickness of 60 nm for large and broadband optical absorption averaging to almost 80%. Finally, this paper also shows the absorption spectra alongside the effect of the angle of incidence for another multilayer structure that includes both VO2 and gold layers which turns out to be the best structure for high and wideband light absorption.
