Prospects for Creating an Automatic Voltage and Power Control System in Russia

In Russia, it is an actual task to build Automatic Control System of Voltage and Reactive Power (ACS VRP). This implementation will reduce energy losses and increase the electrical equipment fleet service life of the power system. The calculation shows the deficit of FACTS-devices (Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems devices) in the 110- 1150 kV high voltage lines in the amount of 74.6 GVar, and the deficit of FACTS-devices in the 0.4-60 kV electrical transmission lines in the amount of 67.5 GVar. Reactive power on the side of the generators should be compensated by AS-generators (Asynchronized Synchronous generator), or FACTS-devices in the amount of not less than 142 GVar. The maximum effect is achieved by the introduction of FACTS-devices in conjunction with a new type of overhead lines. Consumer's participation in the construction of ACS VRP consists in the implementation of FACTS-devices and electricity meters with the function of recording power quality indicators.
