Abstract:

In modern power systems, more and more, protection and control applications use travelling wave theory as the main criterion of operation. Therefore, more detailed and advanced models of power system components, taking into account transient states, are needed to design, develop and test these applications properly. The paper concerns the problem of transmission line modelling for transient simulations and analysis. In the introduction, a short literature review about travelling wave theory applications is presented. Theory of the method of calculating electrical parameters using physical parameters of transmission lines is described at the beginning of the paper. Next, models of transmission lines, prepared using calculated electrical parameters and tested using ATP-EMTP software, for various parameters, are presented. Conclusions from performed studies are in the last paragraph.
