Effective Dielectric Function for Plasmonic Solar Cells

In plasmonic solar cells, the effective dielectric function explains the electromagnetic behaviour of a material at different frequencies. Effective dielectric function is a complex quantity, its real part gives the information about the electromagnetic response of the medium, while the imaginary part gives the information about the absorption behaviour of the medium. Here in this work, we have evaluated effective dielectric function by using Modified Maxwell-Garnett equation [1]–[3] as a function of frequency, over a range of filling fractions for a metal nanoparticle dispersed Si film. When we change the filling fraction, the magnitude of effective dielectric function remains almost maximum for a range of the values of filling fraction from 5% to 10%. Our theoretical results show good agreement with available experimental results.
