A Novel Approach to Reactive Power Compensation using Transient Free TBSC Compensator

A simple topology of Thyristor Binary Switched Capacitor (TBSC) is presented to achieve the compensation of reactive power as well as switching of capacitor bank is to be free from transient. TBSC is based upon series of banks of Thyristor Switched Capacitor (TSC) organized in binary successive form. The TSC made up of multiple groups of binary coded capacitors that are especially utilized for gradual var compensation of large capacity. The primary objective regarding this paper is to present a low cost strategy on the basis of TBSC compensator for the purpose of compensation of reactive power toward load terminal. In this paper the simulation and practical realization of actual system is to be done and performance of this technique are demonstrated. The continuous control of reactive power is obtained also because of rarefaction operation of TBSC there is reduction in the harmonic content at the source side.
