Cement Kiln Temperature Measurements Using Microwave Radiometry

Conventional remote temperature measurements in cement kilns and other high-temperature industrial processes are often difficult or impossible because of the presence of dust that disables infrared remote temperature sensors. Microwave radiation is much less scattered by dust. Results from tests of an X-band microwave radiometer and antenna system at a cement kiln show that with calibration, this instrumentation will be useful in monitoring process temperatures in hostile industrial environments.
