Investigation of Amplitude Controlled Multi-beam Switching Ring Array

A novel method of multi-beam switching is proposed in this paper. The ring array controlled by feed current amplitudes of antenna elements is used to realize multi-beam switching. The concept is verified by a 7-element amplitude controlled ring array, the printed monopole antenna working at 3.5GHz is designed, and then six printed monopole antennas are used to form the ring array, the other is placed in the center of the ring. The results show that beam switching can be realized by using the amplitude control ring array, and the lobe width of each beam is wider, so the amplitude controlled beam-switching ring array can cover the entire azimuth plane more evenly.
