Technologies for Environmental Monitoring of the City

Since the size of plants is small for satellite imagery, technology development can be done on trees, the size of which is sufficient for their identification on satellite imagery. The purpose of the work is to identify and assess the state of plantations, including trees, with the determination of their positioning on satellite images of megalopolises. For research, digital photographs were used, created with optical and IR lenses of the Obolonsky district of Kiev. It was found that in the optical range for objects under direct solar irradiation, identification of plants is possible, while shaded areas are identified with significant errors. When using the index for IR imaging, it was possible to distinguish individual ranges belonging to the crown of trees and grass for direct sunlight and, to a certain extent, in the shade, which was not achieved with the index for the optical range GBtree. Monochrome infrared and optical images were not suitable for plant identification, because when objects were in the shadow of structures, the intensity ranges of the plant color components were superimposed on the ranges of foreign objects. For infrared and optical satellite images, spectral indices have been proposed that take into account several color components to assess the state of vegetation. For tree crowns under direct sunlight for the proposed indices, approximately the same results were obtained. However, the indices proposed for infrared photography are more selective, since for them it was possible to identify separately the crowns of trees and plants on lawns, both under direct sunlight and in the shade of structures.
