VAr optimization in Mesh Network during Different Loading Conditions

Reactive power support in the grid is highly essential to ensure power delivery thus by maintaining voltage levels within the allowable limits, throughout different nodes of power delivery/injection in the system. Reactive power support to the grid can be ensured through two possible ways: either injecting reactive power from the centrally connected generators or by generating reactive power locally at the point of demands using VAr generating devices. The second way of reactive power compensation is being preferred due to the reason of voltage stability. Generally, VAr control tricks are being adopted for reactive power compensation. In this paper, a technique for VAr optimization has been proposed that also helps in loss minimization, voltage profile improvement, line capacity release and automatic power factor correction.
