Loss Minimization of Distribution System via Network Reconfiguration using Meta-heuristic Algorithm

Network reconfiguration is one the energy efficient technologies to minimize power loss and balance loads without imposing any negative impact on the environment and practised by selecting the best possible arrangement of sectionalizing switches to be remain opened for distribution system while satisfying radial structure. In this article two stage processes are presented with an aim of achieving maximization of reduction in power loss and to maintain voltage levels within permissible limits. The proposed algorithm firstly introduces a fixed loop method to generate initial population. Then a meta-heuristics technique known as binary swarm optimization is proposed and verified on IEEE-33 test system. The simulated outcome prove the efficacy of the proposed technique in solving desired objectives in the most effective way and give an optimal solution with respect to other conventional methods.
