UPQC Controlled Solar PV-Hydro Battery Microgrid

This paper deal with the microgrid formed with distributed power generation resources feeding three-phase nonlinear loads. The squirrel cage induction generator (SCIG) based small hydro generation, the solar photovoltaic (PV) generation and the battery are used as distributed generation sources in this microgrid. The unified power quality controller (UPQC) is designed for an improvement in the power quality of the microgrid system at nonlinear loads. The UPQC is formed with the voltage source converters-based power converters that simultaneously injects the voltage and the current into the microgrid for the harmonics elimination, reactive power compensation and the voltage control. The battery is connected with a bidirectional buck-boost converter to control power flow in the microgrid system at varying nonlinear loads and the solar radiation. The solar photovoltaic array is connected with a boost converter. A 3.7 kW, 230 V, 50 Hz, SCIG driven by a constant power prime mover, the solar photovoltaic generation with MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking), a buck-boost converter with a battery and UPQC are designed, modelled and simulated in MATLAB platform.
