Operation and Control of Integrated Dual-Output Converter interfacing non-linear loads

Integrated Dual-Output Converter (IDOC) topology can be used to interface two dc-outputs, the magnitude of one is higher and the other is lower than input dc voltage. In this work, IDOC topology has been designed and developed to interface non-linear loads powered from a single current limited dc power supply (DCPS). The third port of IDOC is interfaced to battery storage, and it has been demonstrated in this work that the presence of this storage enables reduction in rating of DCPS and also facilitates energy management. The modes of operation of the converter, system modeling, and closed loop controller design for IDOC has been presented. In addition, phase-shift change-over PWM (PS-CPWM) control scheme has been proposed to enable smooth transition between battery charging and discharging modes, and its performance has been compared to conventional control approaches. Using simulation, dynamics of IDOC, closed loop control system behavior, and energy management has been presented.
