Synchronous PWM Technique based on Reference Angle for Induction Motor Traction Drive Application

In this paper, a novel and simple way of implementing synchronized PWM technique is proposed. Generally, the synchronous PWM makes use of the reference modulating frequency signal to generate the carrier frequency signal at desired frequency ratio, these implementation necessitates high computational multi-processor hardware. The proposed method uses reference angle corresponding to synchronous frequency and frequency of the modulating signal to maintain synchronization between modulated reference signal and the carrier signal, which doesn't require multiprocessor hardware because of its simplicity. The paper also presents sensor based field oriented vector control of induction motor drive operation with proposed synchronization PWM technique. The experimental results are presented in this paper to validate the proposed method of synchronization is smooth during the change in frequency ratio under steady state and transient operating conditions of drive. The proposed method is most suitable for traction drive application.
