TSBC Converters for Decouple Control of DFIG in Micro-Hydro Power Plants

This paper presents a control scheme for operation of a Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) using a Triple Star Bridge Cell Converter (TSBC) for micro hydro generation. Unlike conventional topology where two converters are used in back to back configuration, the propose scheme uses a single converter to achieve a decouple power flow between the DFIG and grid. Double

transformation is used to obtain a decoupling between the grid side quantities and machine side quantities. Once decoupled, standard vector control scheme is adopted to achieve independent control of active and reactive component of machine current and grid current. Extensive simulation work is carried out to validate the performance of TSBC based DFIG under dynamic and steady state circumstances.
