A Novel Skin-Implantable Patch Antenna for Biomedical Applications

In this paper a miniaturized skin- implantable patch antenna is proposed in industrial, scientific, and medical band (2.40-2.50 GHz). For simulation finite element method (HFSS simulation software) is used. In homogeneous skin phantom the proposed antenna has a reflection coefficient (S11) of -34.856 dB and corresponding peak gain of -16.296 dBi respectively at resonating frequency of 2.455 GHz. The 570 MHz (2.245-2.815 GHz) frequency band and 23.218% percentage bandwidth respectively observed in proposed antenna. The calculated maximum specific absorption rate (SAR) is satisfying the IEEE standards C95.1-1999 and C95.1-2005. Proposed antenna shows low value of SAR, high gain and improved scattering parameter (S11) in comparison of other designed antenna. To consider safety of human tissue, allowable input power is also calculated. Proposed antenna offers the good agreement for implantable applications.
