Effect of Self-steepening on Soliton Interactions in Optical Fiber

The effect of self-steepening on the interaction of two successive pulses with the same wavelength that propagate in a single-mode fiber was investigated numerically based on the split-step Fourier method. Numerical results show that the effect of self-steepening can modify significantly the Kerr-induced reciprocal action between the two in-phase pulses. The periodic soliton collision behavior is no longer repeated after the first collision due to spectral and temporal shifts caused by the self-steepening. However, the effect is very weak if the two solitons are out of phase.
