Pattern Synthesis of Planar Phased Arrays via Subarray Division with User Freedom

In this paper, two design schemes based on irregular subarray are proposed to verify the user-defined DoF control strategy. The relationship between the sensor array radiation performance and manufacturing cost is analyzed and compared. Firstly, the optimal configuration of the subarray is found via the array element grid theory modeling and heuristic iterative convex relaxation optimization. Then corresponding scanning electrical performance is analyzed for different structures and uses the subarray-level weighting vector to effectively suppress the grating lobes. Numerical experiments are provided to validate the effectiveness and potential of the proposed method.
