Boocture: Automatic Educational Videos Hierarchical Indexing with eBooks

Books and online lecture videos are usually perceived as alternative learning resources, yet potentially could be complementary to each other. While MOOC or online lecture videos enable an informal, attractive and rich visual format content empowered by animations and friendlier language, Books present a deeper and thorough representation of knowledge with a carefully designed hierarchical indexing system. This paper presents Boocture-a solution for bridging the gap between the two mediums by aligning pairs of video segments with book content at multiple the levels of Chapter, sub-chapter and subtopic using machine learning algorithms. Experiments included aligning book content with video segments for different subjects, including comparison to human based validation.
