A Data Collection System of Forces of Soft Contact Lenses on Eye Models

We design and develop a data collection system to explore the force distribution under soft contact lenses on eye models provided by Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Inc. (JJVC). The challenge of this project is to measure and analyze the small forces (6 *10^-4 N to 7.8*10^-1 N) at different locations in a small area. Several customized devices for different tests are designed and developed. The forces of different soft contact lenses at different locations are tested and analyzed. The experimental results will provide references for the force simulations and the new product design in the future. Our work firstly measures the forces from both frontside and backside of soft contact lenses in the air. It will provide a way for others to measure the tiny forces at the fluid-solid interface in a small area.
