Improvement in Performance of the Lithium Polymer Battery Part3: Experimental Investigation in Enhancing Thermal Performance of Pouch Battery with PCM

The present research is to improve electric vehicle battery performance with phase change materials (PCMs). The battery temperature should be maintained in safe temperature conditions at operating conditions for better performance of the battery. Hence in this paper, we proposed a heat energy management system with phase change materials (PCMs), to avoid thermal runaway. Initially, the battery was discharged up to 75%, and observe the temperature changes in the battery with and without PCMs. Results showed that during discharge, the battery temperature increases rapidly without PCMs that protect the battery for a long time. The maximum thermal gradient with PCM was observed as 5.4°C.
