Improve Performance of the Lithium Polymer Battery Module Part 1: Heat Transfer Enhancement on Li-Pouch Battery with PCM in Hot Soaking

The present study is about enhancing the heat transfer rate in a lithium polymer battery with a phase change material (PCM) during hot conditions. As a battery is sensitive to temperature changes during charging or discharging, it is prominent to maintain the temperature within the specified safe operating conditions, that is from 25 to 40°C. Proper temperature management is required for the battery. The experiment process was conducted in hot soaking in the temperature range of 25 to 40°C. In this experiment, we selected commercial PCMs such as RT31, RT15, EG26, and EG5 to enhance the heat transfer. High thermal gradients were observed with expanded graphite PCM.
