Real-time WTE using FLC Implementation on FPGA board: Theoretical and Experimental Studies

The objective of this research paper is to present a theoretical and experimental studies of a real-time wind turbine emulator as mechanical part of WECS into an hybrid micro-grid laboratory setup. The emulation principle requires the application of a wind profile on a turbine model operating in dynamic mode to generate a system reference speed used to command a DC motor. A Fuzzy Logic Controller is designed through XSG tools for the DCM speed control. PWM signal is generated from the wind turbine mathematical model output under Matlab/Simulink environment. The experimental test bench is driven by an FPGA board. Simulation and practical results confirm the performance of the proposed system in terms of trajectory tracking despite wind fluctuations.
