Developing Test Specification for Vibrating Components on Intelligent Guidance Robots Using Response Spectra

Random vibration and shock testing are used to identify weaknesses in products or to verify if products can survive particular mechanical environment. The procedure of developing shock and vibration test specification for vibrating components on intelligent guidance robots using response spectra is presented in this paper. Fatigue Damage Spectrum (FDS) is used to show the potential error introduced by directly calculating the Power Spectral Density (PSD) of the field measured non-Gaussian signal, and to derive a damage equivalent Gaussian signal with Mile's equation. Shock Response Spectrum (SRS) is calculated for field measured shock signal and an equivalent transient signal is synthesized using mixed sine waves. Envelope is applied to compensate for the dispersion of multiple test results. A case study is given to demonstrate the procedure.
