Capacitor Banks Performance in AADC Network and the Impact on Power Quality

This paper presents the power factor (P.F) enhancement results after improving capacitor banks performance in Al Ain Distribution Company (AADC) and it is a second stage study for a previous study published in 2018. The paper first describes the used methodology to assess the capacitor banks functionality based on capacitor banks location in primary substations (PRY) and overhead line (OHL). The study also presents a case study that visualizes the system enhancement in the network quality parameters, where the related operational risks are analyzed and evaluated to explore banks switching as well as resonance impact of capacitor banks in the network. The results addressed in this study explores the economical and operational enhancement benefits achieved from implemented corrections and previous recommendations that are discussed on part one of this study. In addition, a real power factor comparison between the old measurements in previous year and the new values in this year is made to evaluate the achieved enhancement in the overall AADC network power factor. Accordingly, savings are estimated based on the actual losses reduction resulted from reducing overall apparent power.
