Abstract:

The reduced switch multilevel inverters, as the replacement of conventional multilevel inverter topologies, has been gaining considerable attention by the researchers for the development of medium-voltage multilevel inverter. This paper suggests a novel high frequency magnetic linked reduced switch multilevel inverter for transformer less medium voltage grid connected photovoltaic system. This new concept can generate thirty one level of output waveform by utilizing only nine switching devices and two diodes. The application of different turn ratio based multi winding transformer solves the problems of dc-link and common magnetic link and provides the different magnitude of dc voltage from single dc sources. The half-height method is used for controlling mechanism. The proposed topology is compared with recently published thirty-one level inverter topologies. The comparison is made in terms of number of switching devices, total blocking voltage, overall cost, weight and size. According to the simulation result and comparative study, it reduces 85% of switching devices as compared to traditional thirty-one level inverter. Besides, it provides lowest overall cost, weight and size which ensure efficient performance. The proposed technique is modeled and verified in MATLAB/Simulink environment.
