Computationally Efficient Modeling of Time Domain Field-to-Wire Coupling in Multi-Layered Shielded Cables Using JEMS-FDTD

A computationally efficient time domain field-to-wire coupling model for multi-layered shielded cables has been proposed and integrated into the massively parallel computer code JEMS-FDTD. In this method, multi-layered shielded cables are represented by several transmission line models, each of which is evaluated by solving the multiconductor transmission line equations with the 1D FDTD method. Transfer impedances are utilized to connect the inner and outer transmission line models. The accuracy of the method is validated by simulating the induced currents of a multi-layered shielded cable above a PEC ground plane illuminated by a plane wave and comparing the results with those calculated by using the commercial software. This method has the advantage of simulating the multi-layered shielded cables inside electrically-large objects with high efficiency.
