Investigation on High Power THz Radial Extended Interaction Oscillator

A THz radial extended interaction oscillator based on radial multigap resonant cavity is proposed. The device consists a nine-gap radial cavity as the high frequency structure, which is proposed and optimized around the frequency of 0.14 THz. To drive the nine-gap radial cavity, a divergent radial sheet electron beam with angle of 10 deg and current of 4 A is adopted. A radial solenoid magnetic field of 0.5 T, produced by properly designed coils, is employed to focus such an electron beam. The particle-in-cell method is used to find out the performance of the device. A peak output power of 7.2 kW is obtained at the frequency of 0.146 THz, when the operation voltage is set to 18 kV, the electron efficiency is about 10%.
