High-Radix Vedic SRT Division Retiring Irredundant Quotient Digits On-The-Fly

This paper defines, proves and verifies a scalable algorithm for division based on the Paravartya Yojayet - a supposed Vedic integer division heuristic - which has the unique property of retiring irredundant quotient digits on-the-fly. Multiples of the fractional-part of the divisor are used during operations, instead of the whole divisor. Architecture optimization avenues are suggested based on the developments in division thus far to meet area and timing goals. These include: reducing the range of the fractional-divisor-multiple set, pre-scaling, carry-save partial-remainders, and overlapping stages. Finally, the implementation of a radix-64 divider formed by cascading two radix-8 stages with pre-scaled operands to eliminate iteration dependency on the normalized-divisor, is verified for all dividend-divisor combinations through emulation.
