Research on Signal Optimized Control Algorithm of Two-way green Wave for Arterial Road Considering the Overlapping Phase

In order to further improve the control efficiency of two-way green wave of urban arterial road, and meet the optimization demand of uneven distribution of traffic volume at intersections, this paper considered the switching structure of overlapping phase and put forward a signal optimized control algorithm of two-way green wave for intersections of arterial road. Firstly the optimal phase scheme of traffic streams was analyzed, the optimized control logic of coordinated overlapping phase was defined, and the time-distance coordinate diagram of two-way green wave was constructed to meet the coordination and optimization demand of the arterial road. Then the solution algorithm of offset, phase and signal timing for the two-way green wave optimized control of arterial road was proposed by calculating the mapping relationship of the parameters such as split, design speed and distance in the coordinate diagram. Finally, the application test was carried out at 6 intersections of Dong Shan road, Huainan city, the results showed that the algorithm effectively reduced the average number of stops, travel time and vehicle delay in the coordinated directions of the arterial road, and the traffic benefit of the uncoordinated directions was also taken into account.
