Short Range Height Classification in FMCW Radar

In this paper a height classification algorithm on base of short range FMCW radar technology is proposed. The algorithm supports autonomous cars in deciding on the traversability of objects in the driving direction. The algorithm uses resolvability of multipath components reflected back from an object by a radar system and comparing the corresponding detections over time with boundary curves. The algorithm concept is both simulated and tested with a 78 GHz MIMO radar system.
