Study on Crest Factor Controlled Multi-Tone Signal for Analog RF Circuit Testing

In this paper, we have examined two crest factor controlled multi-tone signal generation algorithms: modified Newman and Fibonacci sequence initial phase setting methods. We have found with simulation that the former can realize relatively wide crest factor control range but the waveform quality degrades as the crest factor increases, compared to the latter. These algorithms can be used, such as for effective test of the transmission characteristics of OFDM systems, where the frequency dependent nonlinearity cannot be ignored.
