Optimal Allocation of DG for Minimization of Power Loss and Total Investment Cost using an Analytical Approach

Meeting the rising energy demand at economical price and environmental concern in the deregulated electricity market has led to the growing research in the distributed generation (DG). However, DG integration needs to be properly investigated to have positive impacts on the network parameters. In this study, the optimal size and site of distributed generation units are investigated using an analytical technique based on the exact loss formula. Total investment cost and power loss reduction are considered as the objectives in this DG planning methodology. Both renewable and non-renewable DG are included in the case study. The proposed analytical method is implemented on the IEEE 33-bus distribution network for single as well as multiobjective scenarios. Simulation results for both types of DG show the efficiency of the proposed method.
