A Broadband Planar Reflectarray Antenna Based on Half-cut Elements

A novel broadband planar reflectarray antenna adopting half-cut elements is presented in this paper. The halfcut element features a narrow strip loaded with an elliptical arcshaped stub. A linear reflection phase response over 360° is obtained by varying the length of the stub. An offset-fed reflectarray antenna composed of 46×23 elements is designed. The simulated gain is 25 dBi at the design frequency of 10 GHz, corresponding to an aperture efficiency of 58.5%. Furthermore, satisfactory sidelobe and cross-polarization levels together with a broad 1-dB gain bandwidth of 29% can be realized.
