Scattering from a Shifted-Hyperbolic Medium

Hyperbolic media represent a fundamental concept in metamaterial science. Conventionally, such media have a completely symmetric dispersion diagram, but this symmetry may be broken by the introduction of nonreciprocity. We study here two equivalent shifted-hyperbolic media, a moving monoisotropic medium and a stationary bianisotropic medium. We demonstrate that these media support a double refraction with the two refractive waves symmetrically propagating with respect to the interface but with different velocities. This effect may lead to novel types of electromagnetic devices such as hybrid dividers - phase shifters, and trigger further opportunities in the realm of shifted dispersive media.
