4-port MIMO CDR Antenna based with a Defected Ground Structure for 5G mm-wave applications

In this paper, a 4-port Multi-Input-Multi-Output (MIMO) Cylindrical Dielectric Resonator Antenna (CDRA) based, at 28 GHz band for 5G communications system is proposed. A single CDRA is mounted on a compact size substrate of 20×20×1.27 mm

and excited with four microstrip feedlines. The proposed antenna exhibits an impedance bandwidth of 27.0428.56 GHz. A Defected Ground Structure has been etched on the ground plan to obtain lower isolation levels. As a result, a maximum isolation enhancement of 15 dB is achieved in the operating band. Moreover, an acceptable gain from 4.5-7dBi along with the operational band with a maximum Envelope Correlation coefficient (ECC) of 0.005, which makes this antenna design a competitive candidate for a MIMO 5G cellular communications at the 28 GHz.
