Modeling of Laser Beam Shaping With a Single Abrupt Tapered Fiber

An novel analytical method for a fiber laser beam shaper is investigated based on mode coupling theory and far field diffraction. A laser beam shaping device based on optical fiber taper is fabricated and experimentally verified. A Gaussian laser beam is shaped into a flat-top beam through a single abrupt tapered fiber. The amplitude and phase of core and cladding modes are calculated and applied in the prediction of beam shaping. The far field diffraction in calculation matched with the experimental result measured by laser beam profiler.
