Short Review of the Evaluation Impacts of the Implementation of Wind Power Plants in the Interconnected Electric Systems

This paper presents an evaluation about the implantation of wind power plants in the electric system, mainly in Brazil, as well as the identification of some impacts for the electric grid and for the planning of the National Interconnected System (NIS or SIN), developed by Energy Research Brazilian Company (EPE in portuguese language). Some of these influences are related to the capacity of the system to supply the delivery of this energy to those who have problems with limitations of the transmission and sub transmission networks, in addition to the obsolescence of equipment with outdated electrical and mechanical resources. Additionally, difficulties with stability of these plants in situations of faults and adverse conditions as examples the need to voltage control and reactive power. In this paper, a series of existing studies were evaluated, which identified some problems and consequent conclusions due to the insertion of the wind generation of a high capacity plant installed in the network. With that, it was observed the need for special attention to the change of the inertia of the SIN so that the electrical system has a safe operation.
