Estimating the Contribution of Intelligent Transportation to Urban Economic Growth

This paper builds a gear model to explain how intelligent transportation promotes urban economy: to improve the efficiency of the transportation industry, to reduce transportation operating costs and to drive the development of the other related industries. Based on the Super-Efficiency DEA model and Solow model, the first batch of intelligent transportation demonstration cities in China are selected as the empirical research objects and the operating efficiency of the intelligent transportation of the demonstration cities is measured. Then with this as a variable, the Solow model is improved and the contribution rate model of intelligent transportation to urban economic growth is presented. The calculations show that from 2007 to 2017, the contribution rate of smart transportation in the demonstration cities to economic growth generally showed an upward trend. In 2007, the contribution value of 9 cities except Beijing was negative, then the negative value turned into a positive value, up to 12.68%. And the largest change was in Shenzhen, followed by Hangzhou and Shanghai, which increased from -3.3%, -2.62%, and -1.5% in 2007 to 12.25%, 12.32% and 12.11% in 2017 respectively. This shows that the construction and development of intelligent transportation in Shenzhen, Hangzhou and Shanghai have a greater effect on urban transportation operation efficiency and related industries.
